Expanded Nav-CARE Training in March
If you like connecting with people and feel a need to make a difference in our community, then this volunteer opportunity is for you!
Nav-CARE Volunteers assist individuals with declining health by creating connections and providing consistent support throughout their journey. Our volunteers provide both emotional and practical support including:
● connecting clients to helpful resources
● encouraging people to stay connected to their communities
● motivating clients to think about their health and wellness goals
● supporting patients to advocate for themselves in the medical system
● attending medical appointments (if the client asks) as a second set of ‘ears’
● helping navigate the tough weeks between treatments
● supporting clients' families and caregivers through transitions
● listening to people in need – a luxury most health care staff don’t have
Nav-CARE training consists of seven preliminary online modules and a facilitated in-person workshop to be held over two days: Saturday March 22nd and March 29 (9 am - 5 pm both days) in downtown Trail. The in-person training will include active listening skills, community resources review, navigating the healthcare system, Advance Care Planning, and an introduction to a new Nav-CARE element: navigating for people living with Dementia and their caregivers.
Nav-CARE is a program under the Greater Trail Hospice Society and funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Age Well at Home Program, as part of their In Home Support Pilot Project. This training is supporting the Nav-CARE Dementia Project, funded through a grant from Health Canada.
